A report written by Disability Now has identified that 40% of disabled children are living in poverty.
The report puts one of the main reasons for this is down to the “as being the additional costs associated with having a disabled child in the family and meeting their extra needs and the inadequacy of welfare benefits, including Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in meeting them.” (http://www.disabilitynow.org.uk/latest-news2/news-focus/disabled-children-paying-high-price-of-welfare-reform)
This report is supported by another undertaken by The Children’s Society that also puts the number of Children affected over the government’s estimate.
